Dolby-Atmos

Unlike Dolby Digital, Dolby Surround, or DTS, the Dolby Atmos audio format theoretically allows the playback and processing of an infinite number of audio tracks. It is therefore a sound format which can take your home cinema experience to the next level. Strictly speaking, there is therefore no such thing as a "Dolby Atmos speaker" but rather licensed, Atmos-ready loudspeakers that reproduce these signals. And an important thing to note is that Dolby Atmos is currently not available for headphones.
Since theoretically every film scene and every object visible could also be reproduced sonically, such formats are also called object-based. Due to the different signals sent to each individual speaker based on the scene in the movie, the audio signal is processed in a way that makes you feel like you're really in the movie. In addition, it processes much more signals and data than Dolby Digital or DTS, which means that you perceive much more detail with incredible precision. You can immerse yourself directly in the film and enjoy the action with all your senses. For the special audio signals that are to be heard from the ceiling or "from above", the respective AV receiver has corresponding connections on the back, which are assigned during setup. For this purpose, of course, the receiver has an automatic calibration system in which you are guided step by step to achieve the optimal result for your home cinema sound system. 

Teufel's REFLEKT speakers are suited to a wide range of Dolby Atmos speaker systems. You can easily link our REFLEKT speakers to your existing surround system if you have the necessary connections on your AV receiver to enjoy Atmos audio. You can also use them flexibly. On the one hand, you can set up the REFLEKT speakers as "reflective speakers" on a floor-standing speaker, for example. To do this, set the switch on the back to "reflective mode". This way, the sound is reflected from the ceiling to be heard on your sofa. Alternatively, you can use the REFLEKT as a "direct-beam speaker". To do this, set the switch to "direct mode" and attach the speakers to the front wall just below the ceiling so that the sound is emitted diagonally to your listening position.
In this way, you can customize your Dolby Atmos system to your room. 

Since the designation of the corresponding channels can differ depending on the manufacturer of your AV receiver, you should use the setup wizard of your receiver for the setup or connection. This will then let you assign exactly the channels that are intended for the Dolby Atmos signals. With newer AV receivers, a graphic is displayed on the screen of your TV and the speaker connections themselves are explicitly listed. Basically, when buying a receiver, you should make sure that it has at least 7 separate speaker channels ("7.1 or 7.2"). With "Atmos receivers", you can configure the last two channels as outputs for ceiling speakers. On the unit itself, these connections are usually labelled "Height" or "Surround Back". Pay attention during this stage, you want to make sure you can create the most immersive cinema experience with your Dolby audio system, so how it's all connected is crucial! 

In addition to Dolby Atmos, there are other audio formats that also process and reproduce 3D audio signals. These are currently DTS:X and Auro 3D. The main difference is the amount of data processed. With DTS:X, this is significantly higher, which is why theoretically (at least in purely mathematical terms) more details are reproduced. With Dolby Atmos, the minimum requirement is two speakers for these signals. With Auro 3D, however, there are four. Therefore, an AV receiver with at least 9 separate speaker channels is necessary for Auro 3D.

Unfortunately, this is not yet possible. At present, films are still transmitted by streaming service providers in Dolby Digital 5.1 at the most. However, the data volume for Dolby Atmos signals is considerably larger, which is why it is not yet possible to transmit them via the Internet. You will therefore only achieve the best quality for picture and sound with Blu-Rays. In addition, the Blu-Ray player should be connected to the AV receiver via HDMI cable. Only if your TV has a new HDMI eARC connection and can also process the audio signal, you should connect the Blu-Ray player to the TV and route the sound via HDMI eARC to the AV receiver. But even if you do not receive an Atmos signal, you can use the settings on the AV receiver to generate a virtual 3D sound, which will then also fire the speakers at the "Atmos outputs".
